The stock horn is really wimpy, especially here in Central
Pennsylvania where people will whip their doors open to
get in or out with no regard for traffic. I've had to slam on
the brakes dozens of time to avoid these idiots. Honking the
horn just tends to annoy them. However an air horn will scare
the crap out of them. I put air horns on all my vehicles, even
my motorcycle!
The cheap Fiamms with separate air compressor work well if
you have the room but the Wolo Bad Boy is as loud and way more
compact. The compressor and horn are all one unit that fits in
your hand, just slightly bigger than the stock horn. I made a
short "L" shaped bracket to mount it in the stock location and a
few short sections of wire to connect it to the stock horn plug
and to a ground which you can see in the photo. Standard size
lugs on short pieces of wire worked fine.
Round Two
Simply hooking the Bad Boy horn into the stock Toyota wiring
didn't work very long before the 10 amp fuse blew. So I dug the
relay out of the box and wired it up properly. The relay hooks
to the stock horn connector then feeds the air compressor 12
volts from the battery through a 20 amp fuse. Here are a few
pictures showing the horn, relay and wiring. Click picture for
