Hi-Lift Jack Mount Revisited
My first attempt to mount the Hi Lift was way too involved, I over engineered something that should be simple. So my original idea is out the window and I went with some clamp mounts for the roof rack.
Hi-Lift clamped to roof rack
This is the clamp I used, I swapped the short bolt and small wing nut for a longer bolt and large, black plastic knob to get more gripping power for the Hi-Lift steel bar.
I'm still playing with the placement of the jack on the rack so the final location and orientation may end up different from the pictures. It might be easier to clamp it to the rear of the rack standing in the rear doorway. I decided to get different clamps and mount the jack across the back of the FJ on the back pipe of the roof rack.

All the rest of the Hi-Lift stuff is the same.
I put all the removable stuff; jack base, chains, straps, bolts, pins, etc. in a couple bags. I also made a large base pad out of sturdy plywood. I screwed two 3/4" inch pieces together then cut some smaller strips to fit around the Hi-Lift base plate then painted it all red.
