Photos and
Information.

On July 20,21 & 22, Mike, Terri (Mike's wife), Bill and I went
to camp to commune with nature. I had 2 small projects, paint
the well cover and test my adapter plug for my generator. I
couldn't get my generator to run correctly on the new camp
wiring we put in a few weeks before.
The adapter cable worked and then I painted the well hatch and
relaxed with a cool brew for a while till Bill showed up and
shortly that after Mike and Terri came in.
Saturday after breakfast we took off to look for elk. We went to
the Winslow Hill State Game Lands 311 just off Route 555 near
Benezette to look for elk. Shortly after we arrived 3 reddish
brown animals walked out of the brush a few hundred yards away.
At first we thought they were whitetail but later learned they
were elk because of their coloring. It appeared to be mama and
two younger ones. They crossed the clearing before I got any
pictures, besides they were about 300 yards out.
After an hour or so and no more elk, we headed back to camp but
decided to circle around and go further out Route 555 then 120
to Renovo and return the "back way". I was slightly against this
route because it was a little further than returning on the way
we came.
Lucky thing we went "round the mountain" because as we were
rolling down Rt. 120 Mike spotted two elk in the middle of the
Susquehanna River. Also lucky was a small place to get off the
highway because stopping on the highway is prohibited! We took
photos and a couple minutes of video.
We also saw several snakes on the road, most flattened but one
big Black Snake in the other lane. The gang also spotted a
deer, I was driving and didn't see it. We also saw grouse flying
across the road, hawks and a few road monkeys. Total round trip
was about 112 miles. Got back to camp around 1:30 PM. I'm
working on putting the video on the site. It's pretty big so I
need to convert it.
Pictures
Elk Viewing Area Winslow Hill Here's where we spotted the 3 elk way off in the clearing at the top of the hill in the picture. Elk in the Susquehanna River along Route 120 on the way to Renovo Elk through the trees, I was trying to get down the bank of the river without getting snakebit or falling. I thought they'd take off and run for cover, they don't seemed concerned They appeared to be 2 young bulls just sprouting antler bumps More scenery with the elks A closer zoom in shot, one started to walk away until I made some chirping noise then it stopped They just stood and watched as we scrambled along the edge of the river taking pictures and video Back at camp, nearly empty wood bin Bill loads wagon for trip home
