Garage Project Phase II

After I got the arches assembled, I had to wait for a break in the weather. The weekend of Nov 19-20 was in between a trip to Camp to work on tree stands and water pump and the start of hunting season. At first the weather was supposed to be crappy, windy and cold. Not weather to be trying to assemble a building made from sheet steel!

I was ready to suspend the project till later on but then two things happened, the weather predictions began to improve and Greg kept urging me on. So Eric, Ted and I along with Gary (the minister of the church I attend), started at about 9AM on Sat the 19th. Greg had to work but would be there Sunday. When Ted and Gary had to leave around noon, Eric and I worked alone. Ted came back around 3PM. We got a total of 6 of the 14 arches up on Saturday. The hardest part was the first arch and trying to get into a flow of work. The last two went up fairly quickly.

The rest went up by Sunday evening. Weather was calm and even warm by midday. I took some of these pictures early Sunday morning as the sun was rising. Temp 25 degrees. Waiting till the sun melts the frost on the metal arches before we can start.

Weather was perfect, we worked in shirts. No wind, lots of sun. Greg's friend, another Gary, showed up to help. Just as the sun was setting we got the last bolts in place! I still have the end walls to install and some minor alignment and tightening to do, then the 2x4 and 2x6 supports can come down. It's probably sturdy enough now but I still have to get all the bolts tight.

We had a few misalignment problems but only minor ones. I'll take more pictures as it progresses. Probably won't get much done because it's supposed to rain a few days this week and I'm getting ready for hunting season.

I really appreciated the help I got from my three sons, Eric, Greg and Ted, and the two Gary's. It's been a year overdue getting to this point. It's really a load off my mind. Now I can put cement in the wall cannels and put up the end walls later. The pictures are in no particular order.

But now we interrupt this project for Thanksgiving and Deer Season!

More later....
