| New cookstove A new stove was bought to replace the old junker. The old oven ignitor died during 2004 hunting season and screwed up some meal plans. It was voted on to get a new stove. It took a few weeks of searching but I found one at an appliance store a few blocks away. It is all manual with gas pilots for the burners and oven. I converted it to propane and tested it out in my shop. January 12-15 Trip. I added some pictures of the new stove at camp and the rodents I found when opening up the place. I found a flying squirrel that had wedged itself down though one hole of the register then decided to turn around and come back up and got stuck. I could not pull or push either end of him (or her) and had to cut it in half to un-wedge it. Oh yeah, there were two more flying squirrels in the water bucket along with two mice. Man, what a soggy mess! I took some pictures of it all but I won't post the yucky ones. |
Hydraulic ram pump I once read about a Ram pump years ago in Mother Earth News© and thought something like that would work at Camp. I bought some plans and built a version. After several tries we got the hydraulic ram pump to work pumping Spring water into the camp sink. Unfortunately, the base cracked because I tightened the fittings into the base "T" connection too much. I had to build a new base from concrete instead of Quickwall. I reused most of the parts but replaced the 2" inch "Tee" connector. Then I encased it all in Quikrete. |

Wood cutting 2004 Cutting wood, replacing road drains, Tom's tree. |
| New bunk beds Beds arrive on trailer, they look kind of nasty but are okay under all the rust. Greg begins to paint rusty beds. Upstairs was painted during spring 2004 work party and 3 1/2 bunks setup. Remainder of beds were set up 2004 hunting season. The white walls and ceiling paint and bunks make quite a contrast to the old setup. |
Greg and kids Greg and kids visit camp. It's the first time for Sarah and Peter. Pap installed the sink faucet and a temporary tank and stand pipe for the ram pump. Didn't finish because it rained the next two days. |
| Fixing plumbing We had to drain the well several times to get at the foot valve. The 50 year old drain pipes were shot. A new line was placed in a trench running across the yard. Replaced well pump, sink drain line and foot valve in well. Elmo and Mike re-framed the sink to make it higher and sturdier. |

New Coal Stove In,
Old Clinker Out Sep 30, 2005. Here are some pictures of the removal of the old furnace and installation of the new coal stove. We started Friday morning. I dreaded having to cut the old furnace apart. I figured it would take about half a day to make it light enough to move. After the flue pipe was removed and the cement chipped away from the base, Joe and John S. started to take the doors off and when they tried to move it, it came loose. The only thing holding it down was some concrete. We did have to cut one side off the front plate to make the furnace narrow enough to get through the door. That saved many hours of work. It's a good thing Joe and John were there. The two of them provided most of the muscle power. We also cut lots of wood and set up a new horseshoe area. The new coal burner heats very well. I also welded up a new grate for the wood burner but it needs new gasket rope around the doors. The chimneys were cleaned too. |
| I finished making two stands for the Log Carriers. I also plan to make a couple of small pull out boxes for underneath them to hold newspapers and maybe firestarters. Also shown is the old furnace and wood boxes on the junk pile. | Greg and I are making some modifications to his tree stand. Bill is getting the camo chair for the Geezer stand. Greg is getting a new bench seat (old wood), extended arm rests, a back rest and a safety bar across the front arm rests. Here are some pictures showing construction of greg's stand, Bill's stand and their placement in the woods. (Click Here...) |
| Spring Fling 2006 A group went to camp to decide about a food plot and survey the wiring and test a new generator. The generator was a dud, voltage too unstable. | X |
