Got rid of the mirrors that came with my 404 because they seemed small. The cheap replacements began to rust and were not quite big enough so I got two new MOG mirrors from Chris McPhee but had to figure a way to mount them.
I ended up using two 18 inch long 1/2 diameter steel rods which I heated and bent to shape and threaded one end to mount the mirrors to. I used 1/2 inch rod couplers and drilled a hole through for the mirror bracket. I placed a rubber washer between the coupler and the bracket to hold things in place.
I connected the threaded end of the mirror shaft to the rod coupler and used a locknut to hold things tight. I also used Loctite on all the threads to keep things snug. The end of the shaft that fits into the Mog bracket is about ten inches long as opposed to about four inches for the old shaft. This will allow me to raise the mirror position if I have to.
